Tough Mudder 4

On 27th July Wendy Woodward (Director) and Tom Waight (Engineer) at Abraxas Catering are to take part in one of the toughest, yet rewarding and not to mention very muddy 5k course for Tough Mudder 2019 on behalf of Midland Air Ambulance of which is our nominated charity.  Last May 2018 Wendy and Tony (Accounts) abseiled from the roof of Birmingham’s Hampton by Hilton Hotel raising well over £866.69, but we want to top this in 2019! Wendy explained why the Tough Mudder Challenge? “After going through a pretty rough and scary year of cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2016, I decided to do something `different` every year that takes you out of your comfort zone”  “Sounds a bit dramatic, but it certainly makes you realise you only have one life, so in 2017 was to go teetotal (surprisingly easy! says the woman who loved a glass or two of champagne!), and in 2018 was the abseil for Abraxas (thrilling and terrifying at the same time!) and 2019 is Tough Mudder.”  “Having never attempted anything like this before, In fact,  I don’t run and only started exercising last year after putting on a couple of stone going through chemo, and feeling very fat and unfit at the end of treatment”  Tom explained “I am doing this along with mum, as moral support as well as for a great cause for MAAC”.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has responded to more than 49,000 missions averaging 2,000 per year, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organizations in the UK. The charity work hard to deliver the very best air ambulance care to patients across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. Operating from strategically located regional airbases, 90 per cent of the region is within reach within eight minutes. The charity’s three aircraft each carry a crew comprising pilot, two paramedics or flight doctors plus full life-support medical equipment. Wendy continues to explain “You just never know when you might need the support of the air ambulance. With each mission costing around £2,500, the charity need to raise a staggering £9 million each year to keep its three air ambulances operational. MAAC relies on the support and generous donations gifted from individuals and businesses, and as a team, Abraxas are proud to continue to help the charity with all of our fundraising efforts so far and ongoing”
